Recap & Reflection
“Wisdom is supreme — therefore get wisdom.
Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”
PROVERBS 4:7
We have reached the end of this series…
but the pursuit of wisdom never ends.
The wisdom of God is not academic.
It is not a personality trait.
It is not reserved for theologians or leaders.
It is available to all…
who seek it in humility, fear, and obedience.
Let’s reflect.
What have we Learned?
PART ONE – Ask for It
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,
who gives generously to all without finding fault,
and it will be given to you.”
JAMES 1:5
We don’t earn wisdom.
We ask for it.
This is the starting point.
We come in humility…
Not assuming we know best…
But acknowledging we need his help.
Not casually.
Not in a rush.
But sincerely.
Fervently.
With trust.
God is generous.
His wisdom is not scarce.
He gives wisdom freely to those who ask.
He is waiting to pour it out.
But only on those who truly want it.
You must ask with faith.
Not doubting.
Not distracted.
Not half-hearted.
Ask with intention.
PART TWO – How to get Wisdom
“Listen to advice and accept instruction,
that you may gain wisdom in the future.”
PROVERBS 19:20
Wisdom doesn’t just fall into your lap.
There is a process.
You grow in wisdom by:
Obeying God’s Word.
Wisdom requires submission.
You must sit under truth.
Walking with the wise.
Seek godly counsel.
Meditating on Scripture.
Study scripture.
“His delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
PSALM 1:2
Listening to advice.
You must welcome correction.
“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.”
PROVERBS 19:20
Watch how wisdom works.
Observe.
Apply.
Obey.
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine
and puts them into practice is like a wise man
who built his house on the rock.”
MATTHEW 7:24
This is daily obedience.
Daily application.
Wisdom comes through action.
PART 3 – How to recognise Wisdom
Not all wisdom is from God.
Some is intellectual.
Some is earthly.
Some is demonic.
James gives us the test:
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”
JAMES 3:17
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with humility comes wisdom.”
PROVERBS 11:2
Wisdom is not loud.
It’s not arrogant.
It doesn’t have to win the argument.
Wisdom is quiet.
Patient.
Humble.
You don’t need to prove yourself.
You need to walk in obedience.
Let your life speak.
“By their fruit you will recognise them.”
MATTHEW 7:16
Godly wisdom bears fruit.
It reflects the character of Christ.
It is not manipulative.
Not proud.
Not self-seeking.
It produces peace.
It leads to repentance.
It draws you closer to God.
PART FOUR – Walk with the Wise
“Walk with the wise and become wise,
for a companion of fools suffers harm.”
PROVERBS 13:20
We are always being shaped.
By friends.
By leaders.
By what we consume.
God often gives wisdom through people.
Seek out mentors.
Elders.
Spiritual leaders.
Godly friends.
Observe the fruit of their lives.
And walk with them.
Choose your influences carefully.
Who speaks into your life?
Who do you listen to?
You become like those you spend time with.
If you surround yourself with fools…
You suffer.
Who models wisdom for you?
Identify them.
Thank God for them.
Imitate their faith.
“The way of fools seems right to them,
but the wise listen to advice.”
PROVERBS 12:15
PART FIVE – Fear the Lord
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”
PROVERBS 1:7
We don’t define wisdom.
God does.
True wisdom begins with holy fear.
Not terror…
But reverence.
A deep understanding that God is God.
That his ways are higher.
That he owes us nothing.
Fear of the Lord means
you stop trying to manage God.
You trust his plan.
Even when it hurts.
Even when it makes no sense.
Job taught us this.
After all his suffering.
After demanding answers.
God showed him that wisdom starts with surrender.
With trust.
With letting go of our need to understand.
“Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge?”
JOB 38:2
Wisdom begins when we realise
God doesn’t owe us answers.
He calls us to trust his character.
That is the fear that leads to wisdom.
Heavenly wisdom is humble.
And it always begins with fear of the Lord.
6. Reflection – One Final Question
Where do you need wisdom?
SPIRITUAL – Are you seeking God’s will or your own?
PHYSICAL – Are you neglecting your body?
MENTAL – Are you feeding your mind with truth or lies?
EMOTIONAL – Are you surrounding yourself with godly people?
Many Christians pursue knowledge.
Few pursue wisdom.
Even fewer submit to it.
Wisdom is not about knowing more.
It’s about surrendering deeper.
It is the fruit of reverence.
The result of humility.
The overflow of obedience.
Do you want to be wise — or right?
Go back to God.
Ask.
Study.
Listen.
Walk with the wise.
Submit to his will.
Fear the Lord.
And he will make you wise.
It comes from God.
It reflects God.
And it always leads back to God.
“All Scripture is God-breathed
and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in righteousness,
so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped
for every good work.”
2 TIMOTHY 3:16–17
