The WISDOM of GOD – Part 4

Walk with the Wise

We are surrounded by fools.
Online…
At work…
In the world…
Even in the church.

“The way of fools seems right to them,
but the wise listen to advice.”

PROVERBS 12:15

Fools think they’re right.
They trust their own instincts.
They dismiss instruction.
They mock discipline.
They don’t pray for wisdom — because they don’t think they need it.

You must choose — who are you listening to?
Who are you walking with?

Who Shapes Your Thinking?

Scripture gives a clear warning:

“Walk with the wise and become wise,
for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

PROVERBS 13:20

This is not a suggestion.
It’s a principle.
It’s also a promise… and a warning.

The people you walk with will shape you.
Their values become your values.
Their habits… become your habits.
Their spiritual laziness… becomes yours.

You don’t grow in wisdom alone.
Wisdom is shaped in relationship.
With God.
And with those who fear Him.

Who Can You Aspire to Be Like?

We look to Jesus first.
But we also need real, tangible models of wisdom in daily life.
Not perfection.
But faithfulness.
Humility.
Obedience.
Consistency.

“Listen to advice and accept instruction,
that you may gain wisdom in the future.”

PROVERBS 19:20

Think.
Who do you know that listens well?
Lives righteously?
Speaks with discernment?

Imitate their fruit.
Not their platform.

Name Someone You Consider Wise

Think practically.

Celebrity:
Charles Stanley — steady, Bible-led, uncompromising.

Online:
Dwayne from Tack Room Bible Talk — clear, unflashy truth.
He teaches the Word… not his opinion.

Family:
Is there a quiet elder in your family who prays for you?
Who knows Scripture by heart?
Who corrects you in love?

Friends:
Do you have friends who challenge you to grow?
Or ones who make it easy to drift?

Church members:
There are wise saints in every church.
They may not have a title…

but they are faithful…

prayerful…

fruitful.

Pay attention.

Mentors:
Wisdom is often passed down.
Look for someone ahead of you… Spiritually mature…
Ask questions.
Listen deeply.

Wisdom is Not Passive

Wisdom doesn’t mean sitting and doing nothing.
It is not avoiding responsibility in the name of prayer.

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine
and puts them into practice
is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

MATTHEW 7:24

Wisdom hears… and obeys.
It takes God seriously.
It acts on truth.

“When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with humility comes wisdom.”

PROVERBS 11:2

You cannot be wise if you’re too proud to listen.
You cannot grow if you refuse correction.
Humility is the door to wisdom.

How Do You Receive Wisdom?

Ask.
Sincerely.
Persistently.
In faith.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,
who gives generously to all without finding fault,
and it will be given to you.”

JAMES 1:5

Then seek it in Scripture.

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.”

PSALM 1:2

And surround yourself with the right people.

“Walk with the wise and become wise.”
PROVERBS 13:20

And commit to grow.

Final Thought

“Get wisdom, get understanding;
do not forget my words or turn away from them.”

PROVERBS 4:5–7

The people around you are shaping your future.
Every conversation…
Every influence…
Is moving you closer to wisdom — or away from it.

Ask God to open your eyes.
To remove the fools.
To connect you with the wise.
And to give you a heart that is humble enough…
To listen.

LET US PRAY

FATHER GOD WE BESEECH YOU TO GRANT US WISDOM. GIVE US DISCERNMENT LORD. GIVE US THE ABILTY TO KNOW YOUR WILL. AND OBEY IT. IN JESUS MIGHTY NAME WE PRAY. AMEN
