How to Love God More: Part 2

This is the second post in a three part series.

In the first post we considered what love is and God’s amazing love for us, and what type of love God demanded of us.

Now we shall look at the first 2 of the following:

There are 4 aspects to loving God:

1. THOUGHTS

2. FEELINGS

3. ACTIONS

4. OTHER PEOPLE

But First:

In order to Love God we need to be born Again

Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, `You must be born again. ‘

JOHN 3:5-7

We cannot LOVE GOD, the ultimate, supernatural spirit, if we are still living in the flesh.

Think of all sin.  When you are sinning are you displaying LOVE for GOD?

Now imagine yourself obeying GOD.

Are you displaying LOVE for GOD? Of course.

In order to LOVE GOD we need to sacrifice our earthly temptations and follow GOD’s will.

Thoughts

WHY SHOULD WE LOVE GOD?

BECAUSE HE LOVES US:

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY SON BEGOTTEN SON, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE.

JOHN 3:16

When you think about the immeasurable LOVE GOD displays towards you… how can you not LOVE him back? Think about Jesus’ love filled gaze being focused upon you.

His love for us is almost too much to bear.  

It is soo intense.

It is soo immense.

Meditate

If you truly want to lose yourself in love for GOD…

meditate on his word.

Pick a verse and keep repeating it…

slowly.

Or try the JESUS prayer.

LORD JESUS CHRIST son of GOD, have mercy on me, a sinner.

This dates back to the fifth century, and was used by early Christians to pray without ceasing.

QUESTION:

WHEN DID YOU FEEL GOD’S LOVE FOR YOU?

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 

ROMANS 5:8

The ultimate sacrifice.

God provides unconditional love.

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 

1 JOHN 4:9-11

God’s love is immeasurable.

Can you feel it yet?

Be kind to one another; tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. 

EPHESIANS 4:32

God’s love is shown in everything Jesus does. Can you feel that loving gaze beaming towards you?

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. 

EPHESIANS 5:1-2 ESV

Embrace God’s love and traverse this planet with an aura of God’s everlasting love.

Can you feel it in every fibre of your being?

Feeling Love for God

QUESTION:

WHEN DID YOU FEEL LOVE FOR GOD?

We love because he first loved us.

1 JOHN 4:19

My soul yearns, even faints for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh cry out for the living GOD.
PSALM 84:2

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my GOD.

My soul thirsts for GOD. For the living GOD. When can I go and meet with GOD?

PSALM 42:1-2

David, as GOD described, “A man after my own heart”, certainly knew how to love GOD.

Let us pray:

FATHER GOD HELP US TO LOVE YOU MORE. SHOW US OH LORD HOW TO LOVE YOU WITH EVERY FIBRE OF OUR BEING. HELP US OH LORD TO PUT YOU FIRST IN EVERYTHING. THANK YOU GOD THAT YOU LOVED US FIRST. WE ASK THAT YOU STEER OUR HEARTS AND MINDS AND LIVES ON THE PATH OF OBEDIENCE AND UNFALTERING LOVE FOR YOU.. IN JESUS MIGHTY NAME WE PRAY. AMEN.
