What does it mean… God is Love?

God is the essence of love.

The source.

The fount.

The blessing.

Without God there is no love.

With God there is unlimited love.

God’s love is immeasurable.

God’s love is eternal.

God’s love is unconditional.

God’s love is perfect.

So love exists only because God exists.

Any love we receive is from God.

Any love we feel is from God.

Any love we give is from God.

How does this manifest?

The Bible tells us how to love:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. ⁵ It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.⁶ Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. ⁷ It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

⁸ Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

CORINTHIANS 13:4-8

What does that look like?

What characteristics does love display?

Again, what is love?

Love is…

Patient.

Kind.

Generous.

Humble.

Modest.

Altruistic.

Elevating.

Honouring

Forgiving.

Honest.

Protecting.

Trusting.

Hopeful.

Persevering.

Enduring

Successful.

How can we be more loving?

Pick one.

And be that for a day.

How about…

Today I am going to be patient.

Not just with my loved ones.

But with everyone.

Other drivers.

Coworkers

Rude people.

Angry people.

Yourself.

God.

Yes God.

Be patient and give him time to answer your prayers.

Be patient with God.

Show God love.

Show God patience.

Try it for a whole day.

Keep going until you have mastered patience. It is from the spirit so pray to God to give you patience.

Please Lord grant me patience.

Once you feel you have conquered that one move onto the next…

One characteristic at a time we can become more like Jesus, more loving and there is a great bonus.

Love begets love. The more loving you become the more love you receive.

Love is not in short supply.

It is eternal and abundant because it comes from God.

It grows exponentially.

It snowballs.

FATHER GOD THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE. HELP US TO LOVE YOU MORE DEARLY. SHOW US HOW TO BECOME MORE LIKE YOU IN LOVE, IN EVERYTHING WE THINK, SAY AND DO. IN JESUS MIGHTY NAME WE PRAY. AMEN.
