Sometimes life is hard.
You feel that no one is on your side.
Everything is going wrong.
Maybe you are ill.
Maybe you lost your job.
Maybe your partner says they no longer love you.
Maybe all three.
What do you do?
Cry out to God.
He is always there.
He is our rock in times of need.
He is our harbour in storms.
He is our safe place.
How do I know?
Because he has rescued me so many times.
COME TO ME, ALL YOU WHO ARE WEARY AND BURDENED, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST.
MATTHEW 11:28
There is no greater promise than this. God will ease your load and take over your burdens and give you peace.
PEACE I LEAVE WITH YOU; MY PEACE I GIVE YOU. I DO NOT GIVE TO YOU AS THE WORLD GIVES. DO NOT LET YOUR HEARTS BE TROUBLED AND DO NOT BE AFRAID.
JOHN 14:27
Pray to the Lord for the fruit of the Holy Spirit… love, joy, peace. These are personal blessings.
Detach from the outcome and believe that God knows best.
Have faith.
Faith in God is key to peace.
Faith in God is key to relief from anxiety.
Faith in God is all you need, now and forever.
Those who have faith have an indescribable peace. They recognise that life on this earth is a gift from God and a temporary sojourn. They focus their thoughts on eternity.
Paul was a prime example. Possibly the most holy man who ever lived, after Jesus of course. Yet he called himself the worst of sinners.
He had faith in God’s love.
He had faith in God’s mercy.
He had faith in God’s will.
Whilst he was in prison, chained and uncertain of whether death was imminent, he wrote letters of encouragement. He wrote to the Philippians… to cheer them up!
FINALLY, BROTHERS AND SISTERS, WHATEVER IS TRUE, WHATEVER IS NOBLE, WHATEVER IS RIGHT, WHAT EVER IS PURE,WHATEVER IS LOVELY, WHATEVER IS ADMIRABLE – IF ANYTHING IS EXCELLENT OR PRAISEWORTHY -THINK ABOUT SUCH THINGS.
PHILIPPIANS 4:8
And what of Jesus himself?
What did he do when he was facing the worst possible death?
Did he run away?
Did he fight?
Did he beg for mercy?
No, he remained steadfast.
He showed incredible courage.
He was adorably humble.
He remained perfectly obedient.
He said to the Father:
He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”
MATTHEW 26:42
We are on this earth to become more like Jesus.
He was a perfect man without sin. Yet we tortured and killed him.
He bore his excruciating suffering without complaint.
His example is to unquestioningly obey God the Father in Heaven. He is now seated at his right hand.
We have a simple choice… follow Jesus to heaven, or turn our back on salvation.
LET US PRAY
May the Lord bless you and keep you from harm and bring relief and comfort to any suffering you may endure for his name’s sake.
Amen.
